Hello Denyse. Thank you for featuring "Ice Fire" in your "Amazing FAA Photographers" group. I am very grateful to this New York fireman who took a moment to pause for this photograph during the most dangerous of conditions. Thank you for your appreciation of this moment and picture.

Hello James, Thank you for your appreciation and featuring two photographs ("Ice Fire" and "Nigerian Mother in Window" in your Casual Portrait group. For most of my pro career I had the great opportunity of photographing people on locations around the world. These two portraits were done during two completely different circumstances, yet, for me, they each have a special place in my heart. Thank you, again.

Hello Eti. Thank you for your appreciation of "Ice Fire" and featuring this photograph in your "Visions of the Night" group. That bitter cold night and the winter blazing fire was one of the most memorable, dramatic experiences of my photography career. In that moment with the fireman, he gave me everything he had to produce this picture in a crisis situation. It is my pleasure to know you, Eti.

To First Star Art from Ross Lewis. Thank you for featuring "Ice Fire". During the chaos of a runaway block-long fire, the powerful sprays of fire hose-water froze on contact with everything it touched. Blazing Heat in contrast to the Icy temperatures. Everyone that evening was a Hero! The firefighter in the photograph provided me with a brief moment for a close up portrait before he quickly returned to "Ice Fire".

Robert, a pleasure to meet you. I thank you for featuring "Ice Fire". That freezing night in New York was one of the most dramatic photographic opportunities for pictorial-total-reality I ever experienced. I appreciate your group and the emphasis on "Men and Women at work."

Artist's Description

From my warm 16th floor apartment I saw the black, bitter cold January night being illuminated on Manhattan's west side by towering orange flames which consumed the entire block of warehouses. For me, the conflict was to remain comfortable or never forgive myself for not going out that night. I accepted my personal challenge. Fire trucks were everywhere. The massive hoses snaked through the entire city block. Countless firemen. Despite the endless jets of powerful water, the Fire would not yield. Everything was burning. Everything was freezing. All at the same time.
